With this kit, you're not just building a Spitfire – you're building a tribute to the famous “Flying Drays”: Spitfires that flew beer to the troops in Normandy after D-Day.
In addition to the standard parts, resin accessories are included:
- 2 beer kegs with lids
- 2 nose cones
- 2 bomb racks
- 1 slipper tank
And if that's not enough, each kit includes an Airfix Beer Glass, so you can raise a glass to this piece of aviation history.
History:
After the Normandy landings (summer 1944), supplies were difficult to come by and soldiers were thirsty for more than just water. RAF pilots took the initiative and used their Spitfires to transport beer in modified drop tanks or beer kegs under the wings. These unofficial missions were nicknamed “Operation Cheers”.
The Spitfire thus became not only a symbol of strength and courage, but also of camaraderie and morale.
