Modern warfare requires a strong supply infrastructure and a fleet of reliable vehicles to keep troops moving and fully supplied. For almost 40 years during the Cold War era, the British Army depended on the 4-ton 4x4 General Service Truck for this task. As the Army’s undisputed load-carrying champion, this rugged and reliable vehicle became a true workhorse of Britain’s armed forces. Initially powered by multifuel engines, later versions were equipped with more economical diesel engines. With over 50,000 units produced, the vehicle was adapted to serve many different roles. Often working quietly in the background, these trucks truly formed the backbone of the British Army.
