The Type 052D is the name for the class of modern Chinese missile destroyers. Units of this type have been entered into service in the PRC Navy since 2014. It is planned to build 26 units of this class, of which eight are still in active service (as of April 2018). The 052D class ships are 157 meters long and 17 meters wide. The displacement is around 7,500 tons and the maximum speed is around 31 knots. The destroyer is armed with: a single 130mm cannon, two 30mm cannons, one 64-rail VLS launcher or one H / PJ-12 (or H / PJ-11) CIWS set. The ship may operate with one in-flight helicopter.

Class 052D destroyers (other terms: Luyang III or Kunming class) were designed to perform the same tasks as the 052C-class units, i.e. to defend the fleet's own teams, while maintaining the ability to counter surface and underwater targets. Compared to the units of the previous class, however, they have many changes. First of all, they were equipped with changed weapon systems, including: a real VLS launcher was introduced, instead of the so-called revolver launchers. The location of the helicopter hangar was also changed, as well as a modified AESA radar (type 346A radar) was used, which in principle works similarly to the American AEGIS system, and whose antennas were installed on the walls of the 052D class destroyer superstructures. All 052D Class units are currently in active service.
