Description
The Sikorsky S-64E Skycrane is a highly specialized heavy-lift helicopter designed to transport oversized and heavy loads. Unlike conventional helicopters, it features a skeletal fuselage and open cargo structure, allowing loads to be carried externally beneath the aircraft. This design makes it ideal for construction work, installation tasks, firefighting, forestry operations, and rescue missions.

The included Universal Pod has its origins in the military CH-54 program. These containers were developed to enhance the transport capabilities of U.S. Army helicopters and featured windows, doors, and a rear loading ramp. They were capable of transporting artillery pieces, light vehicles, equipment, or troops, and were even used for parachute deployment in certain configurations.

Only 22 of these containers were ever produced, each with its own military registration number. Today, the pods used with civilian S-64E Skycranes are former military units repainted in the bright orange livery typical of civilian Skycrane operations.
